A Brunch for Daisy

Daisy had her very first brunch today. My sisters and two good friends organized a small breakfast in honor of the little one. It was perfect...just half-a-dozen good friends hanging out and eating yummy food. They were all kind and brought gifts, eventhough I asked them not to. Daisy is lucky to have them in her life as I don't buy her anything new but believe in the "hand-me-down" policy.

Thanks Lindsay, Sam, Tara & Kristen for putting together such a lovely morning for all of us.

My baby got a haircut....

You might be looking at this photo thinking, "Am I crazy or does Abbie's hair look as crazy as ever?" You would be right...it was actually baby Daisy that got her first haircut.

Kyle had an appointment to get his hair cut last week and while we were there I asked Allison if she would trim off what was affectionately described as the "Mullet" (by Allison, not by me). She was happy to so now little Daisy is free of the jagged, Pat Benatar style hair in the back and looks more like a cute little girl. Abbie was the only one that didn't get a cut that day (in fact, she's never had her hair cut) and she cried and cried. I guess next time I take Kyle in, I'll have Allison see what she can do with the fro.

Thanks to The Lace Place in SLC, we now have a larger variety of bows to tame Abbie's fro and she even wore a headband to church on Sunday that Aunt Lindsay (I think?) gave her last year.

Not super easy to tell but Daisy rid herself of the crazy 80's hair (at least in the back) and is looking gooooood.

One Month

Daisy is one month old today. I can't believe she was born a month ago...time flies! It seems like we just brought her home yesterday.

She is a sweet little girl and is beloved by her big sister. Kyle loves her a lot too but Abbie is more interactive and more fun to be around right now. I think Abbie will always hold a special place in Kyle's heart as she was his first sibling.

Daisy is very pretty in person but isn't the most photogenic of newborns. Couple that with a mom who isn't super great at picking up the camera and you end up with a baby that doesn't have a lot of photos yet. I'll try to do a better job in the future of taking her picture and posting it.

She still has crazy 80's hair and the poor little thing is getting through her baby acne right now. Everyone tells us that she looks like Kyle but she definitely has the Marz/Fisher nose and the same cheeks and lips Abbie had as a newborn.

I hope to remember to pull out my cards each month to post a photo of our growing baby girl.

Cousins

Some of my fondest memories as a child are playing with my cousins. I spent a ton of time in Salt Lake and Reno hanging out with various sets of my 40+ first cousins. I see my cousins rarely now but enjoy visiting their blogs and catching up at family reunions. Eventhough we are grown with kids of our own, I still remember and think of them as children. Nicole will always be the girl who taught me how to tuck my nightgown into my underpants to do cartwheels on the front lawn...Ricky (sorry Rick but you will ALWAYS be Ricky to me) will always be the one who locked me in a closet when I was really little but turned into the best trampoline partner when we were bigger...Michael will always listen to 80s "New Wave" music and make cassette tapes of himself and his "band" for me to listen to...Courtney will always be the one on drill team that drove me up to Tahoe every Saturday with her friends...Devin is the one that wrote the amazing speach about training a hippo (or something like that) and Shelley is the one that was the most fun swimming partner and wrote me letters between Utah visits.

Abbie and Daisy are blessed with 12 cousins...11 on the Thompson side (soon to be 13) and 1 on the Marz size. Three of the cousins used to live here in Vegas. Unfortunately, Abbie was still very small when they moved so she really didn't get to play with them much while they lived here. She had the opportunity to play with Isabelle, Seth & Saige last weekend in Cedar City then again tonight (minus Saige) as Paul & Laura brought their kids over for dinner and our nephew Trey returned from Christmas in Virginia. Abbie had so much fun. When it was time for them to leave, she cried and cried. Poor little thing cried herself to sleep missing them already.

So to all my cousins and all of Abbies, thanks for all the memories.

I bet you didn't know...

that I am a Missouri fan. Probably because I don't watch the games, follow the scores or talk about it, ever. I loved my four years at Mizzou and went to every football game while I was there but sometime after graduating from college and moving to Nevada I just didn't have the time to keep track of them anymore.

Missouri won their bowl game today and so I figured they deserved a space on our blog. They had a good season, almost making it to the national championship. Of course, I read about most of it online or on my college roommate/friend Christen's blog. I care about them whether they suck (as they usually do) or do well, as was the case this year. I just don't have the time or inclination to watch the games on TV. If we lived in Missouri, I'm certain Tripp and I would go to at least one game a year. Until then, thank goodness for newspapers, the internet and CC's blog. Congrats Mizzou!!!!!
