Father's Day

We had a lovely Father's Day...mostly due to the fact that Tripp was actually home, something our family doesn't take for granted anymore. The kids woke up and gave Daddy their gifts then we had breakfast and went to church. MamaThom and PapaThom met us at church then came home for a wonderful afternoon. Abbie's dreams have come true all day with MamaThom here to play princesses with her non-stop (not to mention Ruby's Snow White dress and glass slippers to wear).

At church, Daddy got to play "That's My Dad!" with both Abbie and Kyle in Primary while also helping me out in Nursery today. He really got to do something special with all three kids.

We had a Tripp's choice dinner then Papa joined us all for desert. It has been so nice to have Tripp home and both the Grandpas here with us. We are so lucky. Happy Father's Day to everyone!!!!

Summer Break: Week Two

Like I mentioned, this week was going to be a total departure from week one of summer break. Kyle left Sunday to visit his mom and Tripp left early that morning for England. The girls had swim lessons all week and I had a mammoth list of chores to get done. Here is how we fared....

Monday: Abbie had a playdate in the a.m. and we started on our first day of swim lessons in the afternoon. I did a ton of work around the house.

Tuesday: Errands, car wash and swim lessons.

Wednesday: I took Abbie to the free movie (Madagascar 2 - one of her favs) at Rave then swim lessons then surprise! Lindsay and Sam are going to an impromptu b-day dinner for Sam so I quickly dialed the Butler Family and they agreed to have the girls over so I could go too. I'm not sure who had more fun, me or the girls. I enjoyed dinner with my two little sisters, which isn't just a rarity...it never happens. Quite nice I must say. The girls were treated to dress up, dinner, dancing, baths and even a CD on the way out. Lulu loved and played with them and they got to hang with their best pal Ruby...simply put, it was little girl heaven. I can't thank Nikki and the gang enough for allowing me to dine with my sisters and treating the girls to such fun.

Thursday: Errands, lunch with Aunt Tara and the baby in her tummy (Abbie is still talking about him), Kyle surprises us and comes home, swim lessons.

Friday: Swimming at rec center with Aunt Lindsay, Nate and Kyle's friend Chris R. We also ran into the Boyle gang...what a treat! Kyle gets invited over to Wesley's house for the afternoon and evening (another treat!), the girls and I head over to the dentist for a little tongue lasering (another story entirely) and we finish up at the bookstore. All four of us fell into bed last night.

Today we have a million errands to run and I am supposed to clean the church again. I'll be glad when our ward's three month duty is over. Between Kyle and I we will have cleaned it four different times in the last two weeks. Tripp comes home tonight and we are all excited to see him. Hopefully he won't crash immediately after walking through the door....

Pigtails Anyone?

Abbie's friend Ruby wears her hair in pigtails a lot. When Abbie plays at Ruby's house they dress up (well, Abbie really does that anywhere) and Nikki puts her hair in this half-pigtail situation. I call it "Crazy Hair" because the aftermath of it with a curly haired girl is quite insane. For the record, the curls don't bounce back. At that point they are sort-of straigtened out and don't match the rest of her hair and don't really work into a clip anymore.

Anyway, Abbie loves it and asks for pigtails like at Ruby's house all the time. I've done my best to avoid them because I didn't think her hair was long enough for full pig tails yet. However, this morning she really laid it on thick and I have to wash her hair tonight and I thought the curls just might be long enough. So this is what we got. She's a little bummed that we don't have ribbons to match the red outfit but I'll visit the super ribbon store in SLC this summer and get us hooked up.
Nikki, you've created a monster....

Summer Break: Week One

We started out summer break with a bang this week, packing in a bunch of activities before Kyle spends a week visiting his mom. Here is what we were up to:

Monday: Kyle has his scout camp physical. A 2+ hour wait before actually seeing the doctor sparks a video; I will post seperately. Kyle's friend Wesley sleeps over.

Tuesday: Sleepover ends mid-day. Kyle has scouts.

Wednesday: Swimming at rec center...Daisy stays home to nap with Daddy.

Thurdsay: We take Abbie, Kyle and his friend Ryan bowling. Kyle ends up spending the night at Ryans and Ryan ends up spending the following day with us.
After Abbie hurled her ball into another lane (a few times) and got it stuck mid-lane, she finally agreed to try the ramp.
The kids checking out Tripp's form. Abbie wore her mouse ears most of the night. She is on a serious Disneyland kick. I admit, it's been too long....
Friday: Another trip to the rec center pool with all the kids, including Kyle's friend Ryan. Missionaries come over for dinner.
Saturday: Library summer reading program kick-off...lots of fun games, music, a bounce house, etc. Tripp takes Abbie and Kyle to see "Up". Kyle joins a few other scouts to clean the church as part of his "Service in the Community" hours.
Next week will be totally different. Kyle is getting ready now to head over to see his mom. Tripp left this morning for England and will be gone about 98% of the rest of the summer. He did stand in line with Jon Voight this morning though and had a nice chat. Abbie and Daisy start two weeks of swim lessons and I am going to try and get working on a mile long list of projects I'd like to accomplish before school starts again.

One Insane Week

We had one of the craziest weeks ever for the Thompson family. There were just so many things packed into a few short days that we barely had time to breath. I didn't take one photo. I grabbed these off Sam's blog. Once again, thank goodness for sisters with cameras. There were professional photos taken of both Kyle and Abbie and once I get them maybe I'll slap them on the blog...we'll see. Here is our week in review.

Saturday: Kyle's soccer tournament - two games in 5 hours. Abbie's dress rehearsal for the big spring dance show. Swimming at Grandma & Papa's house.

Sunday: Tripp feels like he is going to die. Makes his way to urgent care and gets two shots and more antibiotics for a sinus infection that won't go away.

Monday: Last practice before the big recital.

Tuesday: Kyle's 5th grade dance.

Wednesday: MamaThom & PapaThom arrive. Kyle's 5th Grade Promotion. Abbie's spring dance recital. Both at the same time.

Thursday: Kyle's 5th grade "Goodbye" breakfast and yearbook signing party. Kyle's end of year soccer party (swimming party - of course).

Friday: Tripp heads to the doctor again for yet another shot and more antibiotics to cure the sinus infection that just won't quit. Our friend's official Air Force retirement ceremony/party.

Saturday: Tripp finishing the fireplace. Ali and girls catching up on all the errands we didn't get to the previous week (grocery stores, library, laundry, etc.). Our night to clean the church building.

Tripp has to teach EQ tomorrow but thank goodness Sunday is a day of rest. We've had so much fun but our family could use a break.

Abbie's official dance recital debut. She loved every minute of it...especially her Aunt Sam dancing in the same show. It was a 30th Anniversary recital and having her aunt there made it pretty special.
